| Luke
arrived here from Adelaide in late '93 just after my return from a
trip to Europe and Germany. I had contacted the Hege Haus Kennels of
Karin Strauman, and visited Paul Seeger, who field trained the Hege
Haus dogs. Originally Luke was co-owned by Vera and myself. It
wasn't until I saw a copy of the pedigree that I found out that our
new addition was in fact a Hege Haus grandson. In '94 Luke moved
to Hamilton to live with me and soon became my constant companion.
Luke's temperament and hunting ability have won him countless
friends and admirers, least of whom is Pop, to who he was a constant shadow.
Luke had a major impact on Vera's daughter Monique, who was
keen to handle him in the show ring and started a career, which
culminated in her representing New Zealand at Crufts, as our top PAL
Junior Dog Handler. Luke is the full litter brother to Aust Gr Ch
Valache Top Marques, uncle to NZ Ch's Odessa Son-O-Silk and Odessa
Satin - An - Silk, Father to NZ Ch's Odessa Chivazz Regall and Odessa But I'm Xena. |
| Sam has always been special. From his first show when he went Baby Puppy of Group, to his numerous wins at the big events, he has been a credit to his father. Many who knew his father well, claim that he lives on in his son, and in so many ways. Sam is very laid back, but will not tolerate being left out; he is well behaved in company, so long as he is not ignored. In May of 1999 Sam became a houseguest at Valache Kennels, in order for him to be shown to his Australian Championship title. He quickly made himself totally at home, made many friends, and made an immediate impact in the show ring. A special thanks also, to Shannon Perkins of 'Sevoier' for her help in this campaign. To help relive the boredom, Sam was used at stud, with successful litters to Valache Silknickers, Woodwych Top Flite. At the first show of 2000 at SACA park Adelaide Sam won both Best of Group and his Australian Champion title. (Sam is the first NZ bred GSP to achieve this distinction in at least 12-15 years.) Sam returned home in February 2000 and days later achieved success this side of the Tasman, being placed 3rd and NZ Bred in Show at the Waikato Gundog Club Summer Show (206 entries) Sam is free moving dog who can cover the ground with little effort, and all of the 'Hallmark' hunting instincts that go with his breeding. |
| Freddy is definitely a "chip" or more correctly a "chunk off the old block", Luke. From the first days in the litter he has shown a great love of life and affection. Fred has a very gentle approach to most things and has a very keen hunting sense. He will regularly catch the unsuspecting Sparrow or Blackbird and when told to leave opens his mouth and the bird flies off, undoubtedly relived, but none the worse for wear. |
| Kaz is the
2nd of the Bernhard's GSPs and is 6 months older than Xena. Like Xena Kaz was also titled as a Champion as a junior; with 2, Junior of Group wins also to his credit. Kaz is Karl's gundog and has shown much promise as a young dog especially when run alongside Luke, his father. |
| Bullet is one of the pups from Maggi's first litter, which comprised of seven soild liver males, a liver white male and just two females, one liver and the other liver white. Brett had little say in the choice of which of the boys to have as Bullet, (named after the hole in his ear he recieved from one of his litter mates) chose Brett. Not only is Bullet an itegral part of the family, he is also part of the family business. He is a keen hunter, great natured and a well travelled dog as he rarely gets left behind as he and Brett are the best of budies. |
| Max is our first ever solid black and combines all the favourable characteristics of both of his parents. He seems to have past all of his Hege Haus hunting ability to his progeny. |
| Scoobie is arguably one of best dogs we have bred. He has an arogance and style about him that can not be taught, but begs "just look at me I'm good". This style flows through to his prodgeny and is very evident in his hunting which covers both fur and feather. Karl Bernhard has worked with Scoobie from a pup and they have proved to be a formidable combination. Scoobie is keen on mallards but steps up a gear when a pheasant is the prize and is in overdrive when on deer. With his great temperament and affectionate nature he is an awesome example of the breed. |
